“A pocket dynamo with a huge voice, her live shows put one in mind of Amy Winehouse playing the juke joint in The Color Purple” - Counteract.
“Ruth’s music is not old-fashioned… it’s timeless” - Birmingham Press
After live streaming the best local bands, DJs, comedians and more throughout 2020, Lock Down Brum is now finally 'unlocked' and showcasing some of the best talent in Birmingham in your favourite grass roots venues.

Soul & blues group Ruth & The Ark are set to headline The Hare & Hounds on Thursday 14th October with support from Layla Tutt and a Slag Mag DJ set, hosted by Unlocked Brum.
Ruth & The Ark channel the early days of soul with a heavy touch of funky blues that you won’t forget. Ruth started out at another grassroots venue, The Actress & Bishop, performing at open mic nights and has since gone on to host her own monthly show, Ruth Kokumo’s Showcase! She has been described as a ‘powerhouse’ in the Birmingham scene and in his new book King City, Stephen Pennell credits her with “a voice direct from heaven, but with all the fire and brimstone of the other place”.

Singer-songwriter Layla Tutt will open the stage. A lover of assonance and dissonance, she is thrilled by rhythm and rhyme - expect her to pull and pluck at your heartstrings, spark up the spirit and soothe the soul through her stripped-back performance.
Slag Mag (The Serious Ladies of Arts and Gigs) DJs will be spinning wax on the night to finish off the stellar lineup. Celebrate the return of great live music to Brum by getting your tickets here
